PRIDE legend and former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will be making his return to the Octagon this fall.
Rua will face “Smile’N” Sam Alvey upon his return, as first reported by ESPN and the bout will take place at UFC Fight Night 164 in Rua’s home country of Brazil. Specifically in Sao Paulo.
Rua (26-11, 10-9 in UFC) has not competed since December of 2018 after garnering a TKO victory over Tyson Pedro at UFC Fight Night: Dos Santos vs. Tuivasa which also earned Rua Performance of the Night. The Brazilian is 4-1 in his last five with his only loss coming against former title challenger Anthony Smith.
Alvey (33-13, 10-8 in UFC) will be looking to snap a three-fight losing streak coming into the bout. Alvey joined the Light Heavyweight division back in February of 2018 and has since gone 2-3. Of Alvey’s 10 career wins inside the Octagon, five have come by way of knockout.
UFC on ESPN+ 22 will take place at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil on November 16 and will stream live on ESPN+.
