Former UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman is moving up to 205 and now has his first fight in his new division.
Weidman announced in June that he would be looking to make the move on up to 205 pounds and in his divisional debut will face No. 4 ranked Light Heavyweight Dominick Reyes. The bout will serve as the main event of UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston, Massachusetts.
Weidman (14-4) went 10-4 inside the UFC’s Middleweight division, which included winning the divisional championship against Anderson Silva in 2013 in one of the sports most shocking upsets. He also garnered victories over Demian Maia, Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort and Kelvin Gastelum. Weidman is currently 1-4 in his last 5 however which likely explains the move up.
Reyes (11-0) is currently 5-0 since joining the UFC back in the summer of 2017. He has earned victories over Jared Cannonier, Ovince Saint Preux and most recently former title contender Volkan Oezdemir back in March. Of Reyes’ 11 career wins, six have come by way knockout and two by submission.
UFC on ESPN 6 takes place at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and will air live on ESPN on October 18.
