Lyoto Machida vs. Gegard Mousasi II set for Bellator 228

Middleweight rivals will meet again in Bellator MMA’s next stop to The Forum.

Announced by the promotion Friday evening, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion will face former Bellator Middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi in a rematch from their 2014 bout. The bout will take place at Bellator 227 in Inglewood, California.

Mousasi (45-7-2, 3-1 in Bellator) most recently lost his Bellator Middleweight title in a razor-thin close decision to Rafael Lovato Jr. but is wasting no time booking his next fight. Mousasi previously fell to Machida when they met in the UFC back in 2014. Mousasi would drop a decision loss to the Brazilian fighter and would go on to accuse Machida of using performance enhancing drugs in the years following their first fight.

Machida (26-8, 2-0 in Bellator) will look to keep his current win streak alive after notching four victories in a row, including his spectacular flying knee knockout to finish Chael Sonnen back in June.

Bellator 227 will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on September 28 and will stream live on DAZN.
