A pivotal Light Heavyweight rematch is set for Bellator MMA’s return to San Jose.
Former Bellator Light Heavyweight champions Phil Davis and Liam McGeary will meet in a rematch from their first bout at Bellator 163. The bout was announced Wednesday by the promotion.
Davis (19-5, 6-2 in Bellator) is coming off an upset loss to rising Russian contender Vadim Nemkov at Bellator 209 in Israel. Prior to the loss, Davis has strung back-to-back wins against both Leonardo Leite and Linton Vassell. Davis defeated McGeary in their first outing by way of unanimous judges decision for the Bellator Light Heavyweight title. Of Davis’ six Bellator victories, three have come by way of finish.
McGeary (13-3, 10-3 in Bellator) is currently 3-3 in his last six fights since losing his Light Heavyweight title against Davis back in 2016. McGeary most notably defeated Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal by way of third-round TKO in his most recent outing. Of McGeary’s 13 career wins, seven have come by way of knockout.
Bellator 220 will take place at the SAP Arena in San Jose, California and will stream live on DAZN. The event will be headlined by a Welterweight Grand Prix matchup between reigning champion Rory MacDonald and Jon Fitch.
