Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida is set to make his much anticipated Bellator debut.
His opponent will be no easy feat however as he will face former Bellator Middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. The bout with take place at Bellator’s debut event in Hawaii on Dec. 15. The bout was first announced by ESPN followed by MMAFighting.
Machida (24-8, 16-8 in UFC) most recently garnered one of the more spectacular knockouts of his career after dispatching of fellow Brazilian legend Vitor Belfort at UFC 224. It was shortly after this bout that Machida would sign with the rival promotion. Since dropping to Middleweight back in 2013, Machida has gone 5-4, earning wins against the likes of CB Dolloway, Eryk Anders and current Bellator Middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi. Of Machida’s 24 pro wins, 10 have come by way of knockout.
Carvalho (15-2, 6-1 in Bellator) is coming off a tough loss which saw the Brazilian drop his Bellator Middleweight championship to Gegard Mousasi in the main event at Bellator 200. Prior to this loss, Carvalho ran a 15-fight winning streak that saw him garner knockout victories inside the Bellator cage against the likes of Alessio Sakara, Melvin Manhoef, Joe Schilling and Brandon Halsey.
