A high-profile matchup has just been announced for the UFC’s newest division that could potentially produce title implications.
Ultimate Fighter and Invicta FC veteran Sijara Eubanks will take on former UFC Bantamweight Jessica “Evil” Eye at UFC 232 in a key matchup for the UFC’s Flyweight division. BJPenn.com first reported the bout Wednesday afternoon. Eubanks is currently ranked at number two in the division while Eye currently sits at number eight.
Eubanks (3-2, 1-0 in UFC) most recently defeated Lauren Murphy by way of unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 131: Moraes vs. Rivera. Murphy and Eubanks shared a memorable rivalry during their time on season 26 of the Ultimate Fighter. Eubanks was scheduled to face Nicco Montano in the finals the Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale for the inaugural UFC Women’s Flyweight title. She was pulled from the fight for kidney failure while trying to make weight and was replaced by Roxanne Modafferi, a bout that Montano would go on to win.
Eye (13-6, 3-5 in UFC) has been a part of the UFC roster since 2013. Her first three years consisted of bouts exclusively competed inside the UFC’s Bantamweight division. Eye went 1-5 with one no contest during her time at 135 with her lone victory coming by way of memorable TKO stoppage over Leslie Smith and her no contest being that of a judges decision victory over Sarah Kaufmann that was overturned after a positive drug test for marijuana. At the start of the year, Eye moved down to Flyweight and has garnered victories over Kalindra Faria and Jessica-Rose Clark, both by way of judges decision.
UFC 232 takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 29 and will stream live on pay per view. The event is currently set to feature a women’s superfight between UFC Featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino and UFC Bantamweight champion Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes.
