After her fight against Ketlen Vieira for UFC Fight Night in Sao Paolo fell apart, former Invicta FC Bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger now has a new opponent, for a new card in Aspen Ladd at UFC 229.
Evinger (19-6, 0-1 in UFC) will be making her return to action since her UFC debut back in the summer of 2017. Evinger hoped to return earlier in the year, but a knee injury forced her away from action for several months. After going undefeated under the all-women’s Invicta FC banner, while also amassing the 135 pound strap, Evinger made her UFC debut at UFC 214 and faced Cris Cyborg for the UFC Featherweight championship. She would lose the bout by way of TKO in the third round. Evinger did however find much more success under the Invicta banner as she went 7-0 while also capturing the Invicta FC Bantamweight championship. She would defend that belt three times. Of Evinger’s 19 victories, seven have come by way of submission and eight by way of knockout or TKO.
Ladd (6-0, 1-0 in UFC), another Invicta FC veteran, is currently undefeated, having most recently defeated Lina Lansberg by way of TKO at UFC Fight Night 118: Cerrone vs. Till. Prior to her impressive UFC debut, Ladd garnered five straight victories under the Invicta banner, which included wins over Amanda Bobby Cooper and Sijara Eubanks. Of Ladd’s six total victories, four have come by way of knockout and one by way of submission.
UFC 229 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 6 and will stream live on pay per view. The event is set to be headlined by a spectacle Lightweight championship bout between 155 pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former Lightweight and Featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
