During the main card at UFC Fight Night 128: Barboza vs. Lee, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced their next inductee into the Pioneer Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.
That honor, this year, will go to former UFC Welterweight champion Matt Serra.
Serra (13-7, 7-7 in UFC) has participated in multiple major fights in his career. None, however, are more memorable than his major upset victory over Georges St. Pierre at UFC 69 where he would knock out the Canadian superstar in just one round. Serra also won season four of the Ultimate Fighter by defeating Chris Lytle by way of split decision.
The Renzo Gracia Jiu-Jitsu black belt is the first American to be crowned the status of master in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and made his debut in April 1999. He made his UFC debut at UFC 31 against Shonie Carter and has competed against the likes of Frank Trigg, Yves Edwards, BJ Penn and Matt Hughes.
Serra will be inducted on Friday, July 6th during Internation Fight Week.
