The Ray Borg vs. Brandon Moreno has been given the green-light for re-booking
The two ranked Flyweights have been scheduled to meet at UFC Fight Night 129 in Chile on May 19. The event, which will be headlined by No. 10 Santiago Ponzinibbio and No. 7 Kamaru Usman, is set to go down at the Movistar Arena.
The fight was announced by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.
The bout was cancelled after the Conor McGregor-Barclay’s Center incident rendered Borg unable to compete at UFC 223 after minor shards of glass got into his eyes. The UFC doctors pulled Borg from the fight after examining his eyes and decided he could not compete.
The UFC 223 booking was the second time Borg and Moreno were supposed to fight. The key 125-pound contest was originally planned for UFC Austin in February, but the fight ended up being moved to UFC 223 since Moreno had suffered an injury on his right elbow.
Borg (11-3, 5-3 in UFC) is looking to rebound off his championship bout loss to Demetrious Johnson at UFC 216. Borg holds wins over Chris Kelades, Louis Smolka and Jussier Formiga and of his 11 wins, six come by way of submission.
Moreno (14-4, 3-1 in UFC) started off on a three-fight winning streak when first signed by the UFC back in 2016 with notable wins over Ryan Benoit and Louis Smolka. He headlined UFC Fight Night 114 in Mexico City opposite Sergio Pettis and lost the bout via unanimous decision. Of his 14 career wins, 10 have come by way of submission.
UFC Fight Night 129 takes place at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile on May 19. The event will mark the UFC’s first visit to Chile and will air live on Fox Sports 1.
