The UFC is a Meat Grinder

By: Glen Howie

No fighter who stays employed with the UFC for 20 or more fights gets out clean.  In the long history of the promotion, it has never happened once.

The UFC is a meat grinder.  It’s the toughest arena in sports.  It’s the deepest talent pool in all of MMA.  Any fighter, who sticks around – which is incredibly difficult to do – eventually takes some losses.  That includes champions and legends alike. Longevity in MMA is tough, both physically and mentally.  Having the mental fortitude to put yourself through training, preparation and fighting, time and time again is impressive as hell.

So, without further ado, here are the 29 fighters with the most UFC fights, ranked by loss percentage (Note:  Ross Pearson, Joe Lauzon, Jeremy Stephens and Nate Marquardt aren’t on this list, despite having 22 or more UFC fights, as their loss percentages put them outside the top 25):

1. Georges St. Pierre – 22 UFC fights: 20-2-0. 9.1% loss percentage.

2.  Anderson Silva – 22 UFC fights: 17-4-0-1. 18.2% loss percentage.

3.  Donald Cerrone – 27 UFC fights: 20-7-0. 25.9% loss percentage.

Georges St. Pierre has an amazing 9% loss percentage over 22 UFC fights.  No one even comes close to this number.  It’s truly remarkable.
More than half of the fighters on this list were UFC champions.
The vast majority of these fighters, champions or not, are likely bound for the UFC Hall of Fame.
Donald Cerrone is the highest ranked fighter here to never win a belt.
The average number of losses for this group of fighters is 9.
Amazingly, around 20 of these fighters are still fighting in the UFC.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you that someone isn’t a great fighter because they have taken losses.  Every name on this list is a certified warrior, and they all have a number of losses.  These men represent the toughest fighters in the sport.  Losing is INEVITABLE, if you stick around and fight long enough in the UFC.  No one gets out unscathed.
