He asked for it, and now Darren Till will get the fight that he has long asked for.
The undefeated welterweight meets former relationship challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Liverpool, England, officials announced Thursday.
Talks of the bout were first reported by BJPenn.com and later confirmed by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.
Thompson (14-2-1, 9-2-1 in UFC) is currently 3-1-1 in his last five with his lone loss coming to Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley in their championship main event fight at UFC 209. In his most recent bout, Thompson secured a successful judges decision victory against Jorge Masvidal. Of Thompson’s nine UFC victories, five have come by way of knockout.
Till (16-0-1, 4-0-1 in UFC) is coming off the biggest win of his career, thus far, when he defeated former UFC Lightweight title contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the main event at UFC Fight Night 118 in Poland last October. Till would win the bout via first round TKO. The win garnered Till much attention and has since called out Thompson. Initially, Thompson and his camp declined to take the fight citing Till as too young a prospect for the No. 1 ranked fighter in the division to take.
