A seismic Light Heavyweight bout joins the UFC Fight Night in Chile.
Former number one contender Volkan Oezdemir will look to rebound from his UFC championship loss to Daniel Cormier back at UFC 220 against former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.
The bout was confirmed by the UFC Wednesday afternoon.
Oezdemir (15-2, 3-1 in UFC) is coming off a hard loss to current Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier where he fell to the champion in the second round due to strikes. Despite his lone UFC setback, Oezdemir holds victories over three men ranked in the top ten of his division. Of his 15 career wins, 11 have come by way of knockout.
Rua (25-10, 9-8 in UFC) is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, which is actually the longest of his UFC run thus far. He’s racked up these victories against the likes of Gian Villante, Corey Anderson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Of his nine wins inside the Octagon, seven have come by way of knockout for the Brazilian veteran.
UFC Fight Night 129 takes place at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile which is the first event to take place in the South American country. The date will be May 19 and will be aired live on Fox Sports 1. No main event has yet been touted for this card though it would be fair to suggest that this bout could take that slot.
