The UFC Bantamweight queen will return home in her next UFC title bout.
Amanda “Lioness” Nunes will face off against top contender Raquel “Rocky” Pennington at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The bout was confirmed by MMAjunkie.com Friday evening. Pennington was slated to compete for the title in late 2017, but a car accident left Pennington sidelined for a short few months.
Nunes (15-4, 8-1 in UFC) most recently nabbed a split decision victory against Valentina Shevchenko in the main event at UFC 215 last September. The women’s Bantamweight champion is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, the second longest in the division trailing behind only the former champion Ronda Rousey. Nunes has garnered wins against the aforementioned Rousey, Germaine De Randamie, and Miesha Tate.
Pennington (9-5, 6-2 in UFC) is currently riding a four-fight winning streak with her latesst victory occurring at UFC 205 against former Strikeforce and UFC champion Miesha Tate. Pennington also competed on season 18 of the Ultimate Fighter, defeating both Jessamyn Duke and former Invicta FC Bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger before falling to Jessica Rakoczy in the semi-finals.
UFC 224 takes place at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 12 and will stream live on pay per view. It was not formally announced if whether or not this bout would serve as the main event of the card. Thus far the card reads:
