For the first time in the history of The Ultimate Fighter, two reigning champions, in two different weight classes, will serve as head coaches.
Reigning UFC Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic is now set to collide with UFC Light Heavyweight champion in what could be argued as the biggest superfight in the history of the Ultimate Fighting championship.
Miocic (18-2, 12-2 in UFC) most recently defended his Heavyweight belt for a record breaking third time against Francis Ngannou at UFC 220. He won a hard fought five-round unanimous decision to acquire, arguably his most notable win to date. Stipe is currently on a six-fight winning streak with wins over Fabricio Werdum, Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem.
Cormier (20-1, 9-1 in UFC) also competed at UFC 221 as he turned away rising star Volkan Oezdemir via a second round TKO victory. Cormier had required his championship after what was initially a loss to former champion Jon Jones.
Miocic vs. Cormier is scheduled to take place at UFC 226 on July 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Both men are expected to coach the 27th season of the Ultimate Fighter. The cast will feature undefeated lightweight and featherweight fighters. The finals are set for July 6 in Las Vegas.
