Former Invicta champion Livia Renata Souza faces Jessica Aguilar in her UFC debut

One of the best Strawweight’s in the world is outside of the Ultimate Fighting Championship no longer.

Former Invicta Fighting Championship Strawweight champion Livia Souza is set to make her debut with the UFC as she faces former World Series of Fighting Strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar. The bout will take place at UFC Fight Night 126 in Austin, Texas.

Souza (11-1, 4-1 in Invicta) became the Invicta FC Strawweight champion back in 2015 against Katja Kankaanpaa in her Invicta debut. She won via triangle choke submission in the fourth round. Souza would defend the title once before being dethroned by Ultimate Fighter alumni Angela Hill last year at Invicta FC 17. Souza rebounded from that loss winning two straight bouts. Souza has lately been considered one of the best Strawweights not signed to the UFC, though that of course can no longer be the case. Of her 11 career wins, seven of them come by submission.

Aguilar (19-6, 0-2 in UFC) made her UFC debut back in 2015 against Claudia Gadelha at UFC 190. She lost via unanimous decision. After a long injury layoff, Aguilar returned to face Courtney Casey at UFC 211 earlier this year. She lost the fight via unanimous decision. However, the result of the fight was overturned to a No Contest after an in-competition drug test by Casey tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone. In turn, on June 30, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) lifted Casey’s three-month suspension and gave back her victory, which had initially been overturned to a no contest.

UFC Fight Night 126 takes place at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas on Feb. 18, 2018 and will be headlined by a Welterweigiht bout between former Lightweight title challenger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Hawaiian veteran Yancy Medeiros.
