After serving a near two year suspension, “The Dragon” is set to make his return to the Octagon.
Announced by Combate Thursday, Lyoto Machida will return from a two year ban from the sport to face #7 ranked Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night 119 and will air on Fox Sports 1. The event will take place Saturday on October 28 inside the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Machida (22-7, 14-7 in UFC) has been out of action since the United States Ant-Doping Agency (USADA) suspended Machida for 18 months after the Brazilian fighter listed 7-Keto (which contains the prohibited substance DHEA) as a substance in use leading up to the fight. Machida is currently on a two-fight losing streak after back to back losses to Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero.
Brunson (17-5, 8-3 in UFC) is coming off a superb knockout victory over rising contender Dan Kelly back at UFC Fight Night 110 in June. Earlier on in the year, Brunson dropped a controversial judges decision loss to Anderson “The Spider” Silva back at UFC 208. Out of Brunson’s eight total victories inside the Octagon, six have come by way of knockout or submission.
