UfC 214: Lawler vs. Cowboy Preview

By: Joey Blood

UFC 214 will take place Saturday July 29, 2017 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Ca with the main event being a rematch for the Light Heavyweight Title between D.C. and Jon Jones. Besides that there is one fight on the card that most people are excited for as former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler (27-11-1) will take on popular fighter Donald Cerrone (32-8-1) in what will be fireworks from the beginning.

Making his UFC debut back in 2011 “Cowboy” had a pretty successful run at 155 pounds, at one time winning 8 straight fights. After failing to capture the Lightweight title Donald thought it would be better to try his luck at 170 pounds. Since then he has won four of his last five fights, looking better with each victory, his speed and submission game have not lost their step since moving to the new weight class and if he still wants to be in talk of title contention he needs an impressive victory over a former champion.

Also returning from some time off is the former champion in Robbie Lawler. Lawler made his UFC debut back in 2002 and has always shown great knockout power. When he returned to the UFC in 2013 we saw a complete fighter with a lot more tools. As shown when he captured the Welterweight Title over Johny Hendricks, if he wants to reclaim what many people still call his belt he will need to make a statement Over a top 10 fighter and show that he is next in line for a championship match.

Which fighter will be victorious and move one step closer to a 170 pound title opportunity? Find out July 29, 2017 at UFC 214.
