Mousasi vs. Shlemenko, King Mo vs. McGeary set as Bellator 185 doubleheader

Newly signed Middleweight, Gegard Mousasi has been assigned his debut opponent.

The Dutch fighter will be take on former Bellator middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 185 on October 20. The news was announced by the promotion during Friday’s broadcast of Bellator 181.

Mousasi (42-6-2) most recently signed onto the Bellator roster at the beginning of July. This news sent shock waves across the mma landscape as it was certainly a surprise to see a fighter with Mousasi’s momentum elect to change promotions so suddenly. Especially when you consider how close Mousasi may have been to a UFC Middleweight title shot. The 31-year-old is currently holstering a five-fight win streak with his most recent win coming over former UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman at UFC 210.

Meanwhile, Shlemenko (56-9 1 NC, 12-3 in Bellator) is coming off a technical knockout win over fellow former Bellator Middleweight champion Brandon Halsey at M-1 Challenge 79. The Russian fighter is 6-0 with one no-contest in his past seven bouts.

Also announced for Bellator 185 is a paramount Light Heavyweight match-up between former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion and Rizin FF Heavyweight champion Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal and former Bellator Light Heavyweight champion Liam McGeary.

King Mo (21-6 1 NC,10-4 in Bellator) is most recently coming off a decision win over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. His most recent loss under the Bellator came against former Bellator Light Heavyweight champion Phil Davis just over a year ago.

McGeary (12-2 ,9-2 in Bellator) will be looking to get back into the winner’s column after being submitted by British standout Linton Vassell in his last fight back at Bellator 179.

Bellator 185 takes place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut on October 20.
