Two middleweights will clash in an unlikely contest at 185 lbs as former UFC light heavyweight champion “Suga” Rashad Evans takes on No. 14 ranked “Smile’N” Sam Alvey in Mexico City.
UFC Español broke the news Thursday afternoon.
After a series of losses at light heavyweight to Ryan Bader and Glover Texeira, Rashad Evans (19-6-1, 14-6-1 in UFC) made a much anticipated move down to 185 pounds. In his debut fight at middleweight, Evans faced off against Australian prospect Daniel Kelly at UFC 209. In a back and forth contest that saw Evans entering the bout in great shape, Kelly would come out on top winning a split decision by the judges. This loss would hike Evans losing streak to three, putting him in the hot seat for this upcoming bout.
Alvey (30-9, 7-4 in UFC) most recently saw a four-fight winning streak snapped after losing a unanimous judges decision against Thales Leites at UFC Fight Night 108: Swanson vs. Lobov. Alvey suffered an apparent leg injury early on in the bout following a leg kick and struggled to implement any offense for the remainder of the fight. Prior to this loss, Alvey had garnered victories over Eric Spicely, Kevin Casey, Alex Nicholson, and Nate Marquardt.
UFC Fight Night 114 is set to take place on August 5 at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico in Mexico City and will be headlined by flyweight contenders Brandon Moreno and Sergio Pettis.
