Megan Anderson captures interim title; Invicta FC 21 recap

In the main event of Invicta FC 21 Megan Anderson(5-2) captured gold in a bloody battle with Charmaine Tweet(9-6). Both women gave their all in the two rounds of war as each stood in the pocket willing to trade. Anderson got an advantage at the end of the first with a nice late take down. In the second Megan found her groove and once she hurt tweet Megan came after her with ferocious tenacity landing a kick to the head of Charmaine. From there she continued her assault until Charmaine could stand no more. It was an exciting performance by a true up and comer.

In the co main event Raquel Pa’aluhi (6-5) took the back of Pannie Kianzad (8-2) early. From there she sunk in the hooks and took control not allowing Pannie to escape. A potential fight of the night ended early when Raquel sunk in the rear naked choke to finish her. Pa’aluhi has fought the best of the best in the 135 division and a year off did her some good.

Two new fighters for Invicta FC didn’t take long make there presence known. Leah Letson (4-1) took a few hard overhand shots from Elizabeth Phillips(5-5) but followed up with a vicious head kick. She dropped Phillips and jumped on her for the finish. It was a quick finish and a great introduction for Leah Letson.

Very technical first round between Sijara Eubanks(2-2)and Aspen Ladd. Ladd took the center of the cage early and seemed to find the face of Eubanks often. Sijara didn’t want anymore of the striking and went for a desperate take down to finish the first. The second round was more of the same for Ladd who controlled the pace of the fight. Her head work and combinations were on full display even staving off a nice spinning back fist from Eubanks. Ladd took over from there and pressured forward picking Eubanks apart. Sijara went for another late take down but this time it was unsuccessful. The third round was a changing of the guard as Aspen took the fight to ground and went to work on Eubanks. Sijara made one more push to grab the back of Aspen but it wasn’t enough to snatch the round. Aspen cruises to the victory against a very tough opponent.

Andrea Lee(5-2) was once a contender in the flyweight division and tonight she looked the part. Jenny Liou(6-5) had no answer for the bevy of combinations from Lee. Andrea never looked back and laid a knee into the liver of Liou followed by body shot that inevitably dropped her. The fight was called and once again Lee is looking like the fighter who was outside of a title shot less than two years ago.

The always steady Amy Montenegro(8-2) met gifted grappler Celine Haga(10-14). The first round was close with Haga securing the most damage and had Amy in a little of trouble on the ground. Things changed towards the end of the round as Amy pulled Celine’s arm through and it looked as if she caused Celine to tap. Montenegro came out in a fury in the second and really took over the round. She frustrated Celine for the entire time but the fight was still close between the two rounds. In the third round Celine turned a failed judo toss into an armbar but could not secure it. Amy ended up on top and worked some vicious elbows to the face of Haga. It was deja vu at the end of the third this time as Amy gave up her back to Haga and Celine locked in a choke until the bell rang. Amy seemed to be out called by the referee but the fight will go to the judges who scored it for Montenegro.

Rachel Ostovich Berdone has a new addition to her last name but the same well rounded fighting style. She welcomes muay Thai fighter Christine Férea in the first fight for Invicta FC 21. Férea controlled the first round using her range and accurate striking but the second was all Rachel. She mixed it up to draw even in the third round. Early in the third Christine landed a right to the face of Rachel who went in for the take down. Christine shook it off and went back to work on her feet. She landed shin to the face of Ostovich Berdone which wobbled her. Christine went in for the pounce and soon Mike England called for the fight to be over.
