There is some pretty exciting news early this week for Bellator MMA. Yesterday they announced that former champion Douglas Lima (26-6) returns to the cage in June to fight another top welterweight in Chidi Njokuani(14-4). The two will square off as the co main event for Bellator 156 on June 17th which features as main bout for the bantamweight title with Marcos Galvao and Eduardo Dantas. Last night and this morning the promotion released news that they will be returning to St. Louis for another tent pole event. This time it will be the 2nd “Dynamite” card and the main event is set. The always enigmatic Quinton ”Rampage” Jackson (36-11) is back and will face gold medalist judoka Satoshi Ishii (14-5-1) in the main event.
The match up between Chidi “Chidi Bang Bang” Njokuani and Douglas Lima is the second main card event announced for Bellator 156. This should be a barn burner as both fighters enjoy mixing it up and have no issues leaving it all in the cage. This could serve as a pivotal contest in the welterweight division as we are gearing up for the title fight between Benson Henderson and Andrey Koreshkov later this month. The welterweight division is the best it’s ever been for Bellator and the next few months could be real telling. Lima is coming off his first loss in sometime as he previously went on a five fight winning streak before losing to now champion Koreshkov this past July. Chidi is equally impressive with a current six fight win streak that stretches back to 2013. This match has contender fight written all over it.
Rampage Jackson has had an odd relationship with the Bellator promotion. All outside confusion aside he is back to where he belongs which is fighting in the cage. He is currently on a four fight win streak and will have a formidable opponent in Ishii. After securing gold in Judo back in 2008 the 28 year old Ishii makes his American debut after mostly fighting in his home country of Japan. The match will be a catch weight fight at 215. The Scottrade Center should be alive and well with the combination that the Dynamite card has to offer. High level mma and kickboxing once again all under the same roof. We should hear more details on both the mma and kickboxing side of the event in the near future. The updates on both cards are found below.
