With the UFC rolling into London in February, many fans had been hoping to see the UK’s most notable mixed martial artist on the card. Those fans will not be disappointed, as it was announced earlier today that Michael Bisping (27-7) will feature in London. The former Ultimate Fighter winner is set to face Gegard Mousasi (37-6-2).
UFC officials also announced two other bouts for the upcoming card. At featherweight Makwan Amirkhani (12-2) vs. Mike Wilkinson (9-1), and at lightweight Rustam Khabilov (17-3) vs. Norman Parke (21-4-1).
While Bisping has traditionally been viewed as a main event commodity in the United Kingdom, his bout with Mousasi has not yet been confirmed as the headliner in London.
UFC Fight Night 83 will take place February 27 at the O2 in London, and more fights are expected to be announced shortly. At this time there has been no confirmation as to where the event will air in the United States.
Bisping’s 25th inside the UFC’s octagon. With dreams of a title shot still alive following back to back wins over C.B. Dollaway and Thales Leites, Bisping will be keen to make it three in a row.
Mousasi’s own title aspirations suffered a crushing blow back in September when he was defeated by Uriah Hall. Prior to that he had scored two successive wins over Dan Henderson and Costas Philippou.
Whether the fight headlines in London or not, there is plenty at stake for both fighters. The result, and their performances, should tell us plenty about their respective futures in the division.
Tickets for the event will go on sale December 4, but UFC Fight Club members have the opportunity to purchase tickets early on Wednesday, December 2 at 10am GMT via www.ufcfightclub.com.
