Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp announced on “The MMA Hour” that they will be hosting an event in Orange County, California on January 16, 2016. The event could feature a 140-pound catchweight bout between featherweight champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (14-1, 1NC) and Cindy Dandois (6-2) in the co-main event. Knapp also mentioned Cyborg’s opponent is subject to change, as well as the weight class.
Cyborg is the reigning featherweight champion who is 4-0 with 4 TKO finishes under the Invicta banner. She is coming off a 45-second TKO over Faith Van Duin at Invicta FC 13 in July. Her proposed opponent Cindy Dandois last fought in September where she submitted Megan Anderson with a triangle choke at Invicta FC 14.
A mega-fight between Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey had been prime subject for years to many fans, but was put to a halt as Holly Holm knocked out Rousey to capture the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship at UFC 193. No word on whether Cyborg still plans to pursue fights at bantamweight in the future.
In the main event, Livia Renata Souza (8-0) will make her first strawweight title defense against DeAnna Bennett (8-0) in what should make for a great fight between unbeaten competitors.
Also announced for the card, TUF alum Lisa Ellis (15-10) takes on Amber Brown (5-1), Irene Aldana (5-2) returns against Raquel Pa’aluhi (5-4), and TUF vet Angela Hill (2-2) makes her promotional debut against Jodie Esquibel (5-1).
Stay tuned for more card updates.
