The UFC Fight Night 79 card has taken a battering over the past week. First the co-main event between Mirko Cro Cop and Anthony Hamilton was scrapped, then Thiago Alves was forced out of the main event with a rib injury.
That led to Jorge Masvidal — originally scheduled to face Dong Hyun Kim — being moved into the main event to fight Benson Henderson. That left Kim without an opponent for the November 28 event.
Barring any further injuries, it appears that the reshuffle is complete, with Dominic Waters (9-3) now stepping in to fight Dong Hyun Kim (20-3-1) in the UFC Fight Night 79 co-main event. UFC officials confirmed the switch on Sunday.
The event takes place November 28 at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea. The even will stream live via UFC Fight Pass.
Kim has won five of his last six fights to position himself firmly inside the welterweight division’s top ten. His only defeat in that time was an August 2014 loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC Fight Night 48. Kim rebounded in May of this year by submitting Josh Burkman in the third round of their UFC 187 bout. He will now step into the cage in Seoul as a heavy favorite.
Dominic Waters made his UFC debut back in July at The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale. There, he lost by unanimous decision to George Sullivan. Waters had been on a three-fight win streak prior to that defeat, and has experience in both the World Series of Fighting and Resurrection Fighting Alliance cages.
