Alex Caceres is making the move up from bantamweight for his next contest, as a 145 pound clash with TUF: Latin America alumni Masio Fullen has been added to UFC on FOX 18.
Caceres (10-8-1NC) has lost three straight inside the octagon and is in desperate need of a win. After an impressive run of four wins from five contests — his win over Kyung Ho Kang became a no contest after Caceres failed a drug test — Caceres has struggled against tougher opposition. Consecutive defeats to Urijah Faber, Masanori Kanehara saw him drop out of the bantamweight top 15 rankings.
Caceres’ then faced Francisco Rivera at UFC Fight Night 68 in June hoping to get back in the win column. He lasted only 21 seconds before being knocked out by Rivera. Now he will look to rebound against a less experienced opponent, knowing that a fourth straight loss will push him mightily close to being released by the UFC.
Masio Fullen (10-5) was a cast-member on The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, losing in the first round against Leonardo Morales. He made his official UFC debut earlier this year, beating fellow TUF: Latin America competitor Alex Torres by split decision at UFC 184. Last time out, Fullen was submitted by Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Fight Night: Jedrzejczyk vs. Penne in Berlin. Eight of the Mexican’s ten wins have come inside the distance, with five of those wins coming by way of submission.
UFC on FOX 18 will take place on January 30 in Newark, New Jersey. A light heavyweight bout between Ryan Bader and Anthony Johnson headlines the event. The list of announced fights for the card so far is as follows:-
