The devastating news of Khabib Nurmagomedov going down with another injury is tough for fans of the 155 division. Luckily for us this is one of the more stacked weight classes with plenty of fighters eager to step in. One would be the 6th ranked Edson Barboza (16-3) who will now face former Ultimate Fighter winner Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (19-3). Ferguson was supposed to face Khabib at the upcoming UFC Fight Night Edgar vs Mendes on December 11th in Las Vegas. Now he faces the gifted Brazilian striker who had Ferguson and former champion Anthony Pettis on his radar.
Edson Barboza was last seen in July with a victory over Paul Felder. He has won three out of his last four and looks to remain at the top of the division with a win over Ferguson. El Cucuy is on six fight win streak notching wins over the likes of Josh Thomson, Gleison Tibau and Abel Trujillo. A win over the Barboza would ultimately set him up as a possible contender depending how the Cerrone and Dos Anjos fight goes. With an injury to “The Eagle” things remain status quo as Nurmagomedov has not seen action since 2014. More news of his injury should surface soon and UFC Fight Night Edgar vs Mendes takes place at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The fight card will air on Fox Sports 1.
